Summary on Shanghai

listening to: Penicillin no Kakku

This is going to be a summary of best places to got to and stuff like that. Since Shang Hai is really big city with thousands of restaurants, bars and discoteques to go to I will only tell you the ones I liked most and the ones that sucked most. If you don't agree, remember this is just my opinion and you are free to think differently.

Best guide: DUMONT Shanghai (German)

Best weather: Windy, no sun, no rain!

Best place to hang out and relax: Beijing Gong Yuan

Best shopping street: Nanjing Xi Lu @ Jing' an Temple (going east!)

Best restaurants (not necessarily in this order):
T8 (Nouvelle Cuisine)

Yi er er yi (Shanghai)
Zen (Cantonese)

Lanteen (Japanese)

Best fastfood: Kimchi Ramen! (the only fastfood I ever liked in my whole life)!!!!

Best bars:
Luna

Star East
Randevous

Zappatas (Waiguorenbar!!!)

Best party streets:
Hengshang Lu/Dongping Lu

Maoming Nan Lu
Xintaindi

Best partyplace at all:

Lan Kwai Fok Entertainments @ Fuxing Gong Yuan

Best looking bartenders to be found @ Pegasus (the two guys with glasses) simply to die for *sigh* (I should have taken a pic.........)

okay, now the negative things:

Worst Restaurant: Darling Harbour

I really can't remember more really bad things, they will probably pop up some day again, but I'm quite good at forgetting things like that (^_^)

Respect to all those Shanghaians with real Bally bags!! I've seen many real ones around and I can tell you, they cost a fortune in Shanghai!

My impression: SHANGHAI ROCKS!!!!!!

I'm so looking forward to go back next year, you wouldn't believe it.

Another thing is, you learn a lot about yourself, when spending 4 1/2 weeks without much company. Only my teachers and the one weekend with my friends from back home. I think everybody should try it once in a lifetime. But actually right now I'm running into a problem, because I liked beeing alone, at least to some extend. I have to get used be back home again.

Speaking Dutch in Shanghai

Listening to: SADS no SAD BLOOD ROCK'N'ROLL

Okay, it's been a while since I posted, but I just had enough to do. So
let's get started.

Let's start with the things worth noticing that happened on Friday. I went to California's again. I just wanted to be in a place where party was going on for sure. I was standing upstairs at the bar in Park 97 when some American guy came up to me and asked if I was from California. Since I'm not (^_^) I told him that I was from Germany. He's like "Germany? Where is that?" you guys can imagine the face I made hearing that. So I tell him Europe and he goes like "Eh, small place!" (?_?)
Then a fairly nice thing happened. I finally flirted with a Chinese guy.
\(^_^)/ Not too bad looking, but he really had a strange way to dance. Not strange in the meaning of interesting, but simply strange, therefore nothing further happened. Sounds kind of picky, but what's the point in not being picky?????

Saturday I decided to try out yet another bar at Xintiandi. I met a guy from Southafrica and one from Scottland. Yay!!! They could be my dads but they are really nice guys. Later I left them and went to Pegasus. It was freaking empty, but 50 yuan entry fee was still worth paying. You wonder why? I tell you why. There seems to be some secret rule that male bartenders have to be as cute as possible in Shanghai. So if the guests look like shit, there are still the bartenders to look at (^_^) But honestly, I've been barhopping a lot during the last month and the Pegasus boys are absolutely number one! I'm not kidding. They are tall, extremely good looking and so skinny that you get the impression that eating is a crime (at least in Shanghai (^_^).
Those two guys are simply drop dead beatiful. And they speak English (^_^) They look actually that good that I'm, thinking of dropping in for a short time on Friday again, only to take one last look! Well, the two guys I met earlier that night caught up on me and they took me to some Gaijin Bars (okay since we are in China Waiguoren Bars) but now I can imagine what Gaijin Bars in Japan are like, and I can tell you, that I already hate them.
The last one we went to was Zappatas. Can't say anything about the
bartenders, but the only Chinese guy guest I saw was extremely cute, but
only about 1,60 (^_^) okay, maybe a little taller, but I was wearing high heels. And no, I don't feel ashamed wearing high heels in China! So much for Saturday.
Sunday I went to that Xintiandi place again and met the Scott. He wasn't
able to remember half of the last evening, because he had been so drunk.
Nothing much happend later that evening.

I had a Manicure and Pedicure on Monday. And I have to admit it was the
first time in my life that I was satisfied with the manicure I got. My nails are just the shape I like them to be and my feet look great. So those girls are really really good. I had dinner at a Thai restaurant that night. Wasn't bad at all but not outstanding.

Tried yi er er yi aka The Dining Room out on Tuesday and it was really
really good. So if you have to rely on Restaurants with an English Menu you should give the Dining Room a shot.

Okay if you wonna eat Chinese you are ordering more then one plate. You
order some meat, some veggies and rice. But normal portions are just too big for one person. You can ask for small protions though. I haven't experienced anybody saying no yet, so I guess it works in every Resautrant. Yesterday was a really really great day. I had a fun time at school. I love my teachers, these girls are just so nice. Then I decided to go to Darling Harbour for lunch.....it sucked. But I was so proud of myself coz the waitress didn't speak one word English, so I had to order my meal in Chinese, and I actually got the stuff I wanted to eat! Big ego boost (^_^)
No need to say anything else, but since I was at Nanjing Xi Lu I found just the best shopping malls ever. And I couldn't resist. I shopped my soul out. And everybody who ever said spending money does not make happy! THEY LIE. I was in such a good mood after spending a (little) fortune on accessoirs, that I was smiling all over my face (^_^) Well I'm limited to buying bags and stuff like that, since I'm simply too fat to buy any clothing and my feet are to big to buy any shoes, but there are so many possiblities to spend a lot of money in three shopping malls full of world wide famous designers. So yesterday all I did was shopping. It was the first time I was kind of happy being to fat to buy any cool clothing, coz god knows I would have spent all the money I have. So lucky me this time. But still I know, there is simply no way I will spend a whole year in Shanghai withought buying any cloth, so I finally will have to lose some weight in order to become a happy Shanghaian (at least for one year!) I hope I make it this
time. Wish me luck.
My day ended softly. I walked the whole way back to the Bund, snatched a cab and off I went to my dear little Hotel. I didn't have dinner and I didn't go out, cuz I didn't wonna ruin the great day I had by having a shitty night, even though I was fighting temptation to go to Pegasus *sigh* believe me, those to guys are just to die for (^_^) If they would mind me taking a picture of them??????

Uhhh gotta go, school will start soon and I hate being late for anything, so
see you later

(^*^)

J-Rock news in Shanghai

Listening to: PENICILLIN no No.53

There you are guys, I promised to keep you on track a little more often andso I do. Remember that I wanted to try out some venues around Fu Dan
Univesity. So I bought a map in order not to get lost too much and I
didn't....get lost, I mean, and also I didn't find the places I wanted to go to. The area around Fu Dan is not actually a hotspot.....people looked at me as if I were an Alien. Not kidding there were like....."A! Waiguoren" They actaully said it. For those of you who don't study Chinese or don't have enought fantasy to imagine what those words mean here the translation: "Oh! Foreigner" "Huch, Auslaender" "E! Gaijin"
So I was walking around Fu Dan Daxue, more or less in the middle of the
night, serching for Pubs.....after a while I gave up, took a taxi and went to Californias again.

But I had no luck at California again. It's not that there weren't enough good looking people around, but they just don't come up to me. So some guy from Southafrika, having his roots in Arabia, talked to me the whole evening trying to pick me up, he was quite nice, but not my type. But I was fair enough to tell him after a while. So I went home at about half past three.....kind of frustrated, kind of happy only for the fact that looking at handsom guys makes me happy at an instant (^_^)

Yesterday I decided to go study at Xintaindi again. So I did. Later on I
went to Ark. Good decision. Two bands played. Both young (no cute guys but good Rock to Hard Rock music) and outgoing. There weren't makeing me jumping of my seat and start dancing type, but it was way better than staying at home again.

BIG NEWS FOR EVERY J-ROCK FAN IN EUROPE:
D'espairs Ray are going to play in PARIS IN OCTOBER!!!!!!!! So I will
defenately try to get some tickets......I will go, no matter what day they play. These are the best news by far! (^_/)/\(\_^) I wonna go so
much......please someone gimme a ticket PLEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAASE. Anyone wonna join me???????? I bet there are some of you who would love to, and even if noone will join me....I will try everything to get there. Strange thing, isn't it I'm in Shanghai surviving of my poor Chinese and I get all excited about going to a D'espairs Ray concert in Paris *lol* (^_^)

So that's it for today (^_^)

A teddybear in Shanghai or I've been on national TV (^_^)

I know I know, it'se been a couple of days since I posted, but believe me, I don't have any time, so I won't go day by day. Some nice things happned. Had to pee one day badly so I went to famous PEACE Hotel and asked the Concierge where the bathroom was. I tell you, it was the best thig I've ever done. That boy had a voice to melt. I was probably staring at him since he did not only have a freaking sexy voice but also the looks. So if you ever come to Shanghai, drop into peace hotel and ask the concierge something.

Since Manu forgot her Teddy at the hostel they were staying at, I picked it up the other day and when I saw it, I was like HEY I know that one, I have the same one.....cool thing! So I had a somehow familiar companion that day, since I carried old little PEZI around Shanghai with me. I'm pretty used to people staring at me without even trying to hide it, but you can't emagine what people look like at you when you are a 1,83m tall, blue haired foreigner who is carrying a teddybear around with her. It was quite funny.

Another nice thing is, since probably no normal beeing is staying at a hotel for over one month I knwo the staff by now. At breakfast the two chiefs of the room even talk to me and are like, hey how's your Chinese coming along, if you need help just ask. So, service has improved a lot. Really really nice. I love that kind of attantion (^_^)

One day I came to school and one of my teachers was like, hey my friend saw you on TV. And I was like, yeah could be possible, because one day, when I was again walking into the wrong direction on Huaihai Lu I passed a camera team. When they saw me coming up, they just started filming. But I would never have thought, that I would actually appear on National TV in China....kind of cool.
Two days later one of my other teachers asked me the same thing and she told me, that the show which it was shown at was about the colour blue and how young poeple match colors. Yay lucky me, that I changed my haircolor from pink to blue before coming to China (^_^)

Yesterday I went to Fuxing Park in which a bar and disco complex is. Really cool place. Lots of good looking people willing to spend a lot of money. I saw one guy that was just to pretty to be real. I'm not kidding. But you all know me....I'm waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay to shy to go over to somebody and just say hi *sigh*
But I shouldn't complain, one guy was talking to me half the evening and at the end he told me that he thinks that I'm pretty much like Chinese people because of being to shy to talk to others. I guess it was a compliment, even though I don't really feel comfortable with beeing that much like Chinese people. Despite my looks I'm not really outgoing. But hey.....maybe it's not the worst thing in the world.
Looks as if the next three years are going to be pretty lonely ones (-_-#)
I'm just not able to change and I don't know why. Regection is just a really big thing to me, so not asking or rather not aproching means not beeing turned down. Maybe I should get some plastic surgery done.....just kidding.
I'm not in the best mood right now, so I really hope something cheerful,
besides buying some Jade stuff, happens to me today.....like loseing 10kg at once or something like that (^_^)

Tonight I wonna try out partying around Fu Dan University. There are
supposed to be some really cool places with lost of young people willing to chat. Maybe I'm lucky tonight and there will be someone willing to talk to me......argh.....probably not, but not going out is no opportunity.

I have to say I got used to Shanghai already. It's a really cool place and right now I'm more like....shit only 2 more weeks left, than ........urgh 2 MORE weeks to go. I think that is a good sign. I will miss the crowded streets. I will miss the fact that you can buy drinks at every street corner. I will miss the good looking Chinese boys (^_^) even though I only look at them. The pleasure is all mine *g*

Okay guys, I hope you enjoy reading this and I will try to post a little
more often.

I will go and buy a map now, coz I don't wonna get lost in Pudong right
(^_^)
have a nice weekend guys......and think of me....at least sometimes (~_^)

Meeting some friends from Germany

Well, well, well I know I haven't been posting for a couple of days, but
guys believe me, I've been very busy.

I ate at a really neat restaurant on Thursday called T8 at Xintiandi (UME
Coplex Tai Cai Lu) Since I was alone they placed me at the bar and people
believe me, it's the best place to be when you're alone, because you can
watch the cooks making the food, and boy that was delicous. Really, really,
really good. There is nothing to complain about. Afterwards I went to ARK
live house, which is a neat bar in which bands are playing. Really cool to
go to when you're alone, because the bands are interesting to watch.
Here in Shanghai everything in bars is about live music and that's actaully
a pretty cool thing. I love it.

On Friday I met to fellow stundents from Bonn. Linda and Manu which was
really really cool. Been wondering around Nanjing Lu and so on and got some
really cool things to eat. I will post the pictures of that stuff as soon as
I'm back in Germany.

On Saturday we decided to go to Suzhou, so we met at 9 o'clock in order to
get to the Shanghain Zhan (Shanghai Station) we got there around 10 and I
tell you it was packed. It was so crowded that we had a hard time getting to
the counter we needed. When it was finally our turn we learned that the next
train was only going at 13:15 so we had about three hours to hang out around
Shanghai Zhan. We visited the Shopping malls and went to a really cool Fast
Food Place called something with Sumo, really cool, since the food was not
only healthy but also really really tasty. Getting on our train we
recognized that we had bought tickets for the better kind of train. Reserved
seats really neat for 22 yuan, which is a bout 2 Euro....IMAGINE 22 yuan one
way and the train was way better than the DB trains (DB=Deutsche Bahn) It
was really cool. Girls running around selling warm food, fruits, toys for
the kids and drinks the whole ride....that's what I call service!
After an hour ride we reached Suzhou and rushed through two parks since they
all close around 5 p.m. Since we've been walking all the time we couldn't
bother to walk to the inner city in order to get something to eat. So we
hired a Riksha. That poor man had to transport all three of us, but that
actually had the effect that he was getting admired a lot, since he could
handle it really well. Had really good food again and wanted to go home, so
we walked back to the Station just to learn, that the next train would leave
only in 2 and a half hours, so we decided to sit in front of the staion on
the ground, just as many others did, but boy we were cinema to all the
Chinese people.
When one guy came up to us with his children and asked for money in order to
buy them food we made the mistake and answered him in Chinese. Now
everything started to run wild. First only a couple of guys gathered around
us and looked at us as if we were some rare mokeys. After a short while more
and more people gathered around us in order to watch uns and listen what we
were saying. One guy started asking us questions in Chinese. Eager as we are
we tried to understand what he was asking us and tried to give our best
answering. BIG mistake, within second about thirty people stood around us.
Many just watching and listening to what we've been talking about, but some
tried to talk to us. In the beginning it was quite pleasant, but when more
and more people gathered around us it became kind of strange. When a beggar
came up to us the police showed up and sacared some of the people away. But
since one of the guys, who was actually pretty polite and was trying to
speak as clearly as he could, kept on talking to us more and more people
gathered around us, drawing nearer and nearer and after two hours sitting
there, about a hundred people had gathered around us, asking us questions
and nearly sitting on our laps.
One of them tried to speak English with us, which was rather funny since he
started off with those typical text book sentences: Hi I'm such and shuch,
what is your name, where are you from. But when he was finished with this
typical introduction, he gave me his ID and told me that he was a single.
Just like, hey I'm SINGLE look at me. It was the funniest thing ever.
The police came once more to scare people away, but hopelessly they tried
and nothing worked. After two hours we got kind of tired talking to those
poeple them getting closer and closer so we decided to stand up. When we
were walking up to the station one of the police officers kind of dragged us
into the station in order to get rid of the duty to protect us from the
masses. It was quite funny, since we now can imagine how it must be like
when you're a star. People desperately wanting to talk to you, wanting to
touch you and stuff like that. We were pretty happy that none of our "fans"
wanted to got to Shanghai, too.
That was my wierdest experience ever in my life.
On our way back we had a less comfi train, but it only cost 7 yuan, so no
complains about that.
it was about midnight, when we reached Shanghai and since Metro was closed
already we took taxis back home, got ourselves dressed up to party and went
out.....kind of. First I again had cab driver who kicked me out some place
pointed into a direction and again it was the wrong one, so I came 20
minutes late to our checkpoint. ten to two I met Lina and Manu outside Ying
Yang some bar and disco, but it was quite empty. Drank a beer and decided to
take a cab to another disco, which is supposed to be the biggest one in
China. When we reached the venue it was about 2:45 a.m. NOONE there. So we
asked a cab driver where to go and he told us that everything closes at 2 in
the morning. That sucked so much, but we had nothing else to do than got
back to our hotels and get so sleep.
Sunday was the first rainy day in Shanghai.....and when I say rainy I mean
it was raining cats and dogs. We still decided to go to Yu Yuan, which is a
the old town in Shanghai. Really cool place to hang out, if it is not
raining! Even though we had bought some umbrellas as you can imagine they
weren't the best ones in there world so after a while the rain was dripping
through them. Fortunately after we decided to have an early dinner at 5 p.m.
and got out of the restaurant around 7 p.m. it was barely raining anymore
and we didn't need our umbrellas. So we all went a little shopping which was
quite fun. Afterwards we walked back to Fu Zhou Lu in which Manu's and
Linda's Hostel was. A really neat hostel. We restet shortly and diceded to
go to Xintaindi (UME Complex) to party that night. So we found ourselves a
neat bar with really cool live music performance, had 2 pitchers and got to
know each other quite well.
When we left Luna (the pub we went to) it was pouring outside again. Said
good bye quickly, since they left this morning to Beijing. I hope they have
great time there.
Funny thing, that I didn't know Manu well and Linda not at all before coming
to Shanghai. Linda and I in fact never have talked to each other before!
Cool thing that I got to know them both. Now partying in Bonn we be even
cooler than it already is (^_^)

Oh I want to mention something. Chinese men are looking at your face
first.....and that at your boobs! Great isn't it! Not like European guys who
sometimes seem to forget that a woman has a face, too!

Today I had a shitty start. Two taxi drivers didn't want to drive me to
school. So I was kind of demotivated when I reachen TLI finally. But my
teachers are all so kind and nice that your spirit gets lifted the instant
you get into the school rooms. Afterwards I decided to walk around Pu Dong a
little. Good choice. Pu Dong is quite a cool place to hang out. It's the
future part of Shanghai. Saw two Malls with Gucci and stuff, walked to pearl
tower and decided to visit is some other day in the evening, since you have
really cool frew from one of the upper pearls. You can look all over
Shanghai and it's beautiful way to be lit at night. I saw it in some of
Lind's pics. I took tourist walking tunnel to the bund, which everyone
should at least try once. A cool way to get from Pu Dong to the Bund.

Well that's it for today......See ya guys

First Impressions

Currently listening to: Miyavi: -gagaku-

It's a lovely day. It's rather cold today, due to a fresh wind blowing.
Humidity ist barely existant today, so no major sweating to be done (^_^)
School war all right today. My pronounciation sucked though. Well maybe
tomorrow will be a better day, who knows. I will go to Nanjing Dong Lu
later, to check out some more stores and hang out at the bund, maybe I'll
dine at M on the Bund, but I don't know yet. Let's see and wait.

Okay, where did I stop yesterday? I honestly don't remember and cuz I can't
look it up either, there might be a little gap, never mind it. Well Saturday
was a rather good day I think. Nothing special happend, so I guess that's
good. Who knows. Well due to the incident on Friday night, I did not feel
like going out on Saturday. I stayed at the hotel and watched Cannel [V].

Slept nearly all Sunday and went out at 4 p.m. because I was in the need of
food. I hadn't eaten for about 24h at that time, so I was starting to
getting hungry as you can probably imagine. I decided to get dropped off at
Nanjing Dong Lu again and walk the way to Huai Hai Lu. In oder to understand
more people or to find out things, I baught an electronic Dictionary. Of
course it's on Chinese, but a little klicking here and there makes
everything work (^_^). After I've been looking for one of those things I
finally found it at the Foreign Book store. And since it is a law, once you
find the thing you want and you buy it, you see it 5 mins later for less
money all around (-_-#)
On my way to Huai Hai Zhong Lu, I was wandering if I'd find some real
designer Stores, and BAM I did. Great, nearly all the major designer lables
at one place right at the beginning of Huai Hai Xin Lu (^_^)/ YAY So of
course I went in and took a look around. Found THE STORE for handbags,
honestly they had the cooles handbags I've ever seen, except Moschino's of
course. But just like an other rule. Ther really cool things are really
expensive, so I did not buy one........yet (^_^), maybe I'll make up my
mind.
By then I was starving and decided to take another chance on Ashanti Dome,
since it was Sunday. And after a nice lady showed me direction (the right
one....not like that taxi driver) I actually found it. It is in a
neighbourhood, you'd never expect a decent french restaurant. At the
beginning of the road garbage bags were laying around and did not look to
welcomeing. But wenn I saw the yellow Umbrella's of the Dead Widow Champaign
I knew it was what I was looking for.
At the entrance the waiter asked me, if I wanted Frebcg Cuisine or Spanish
Tapas. WHO would EVER choose Tapas above French Cuisine, when really hungry?
So I went for the French Cuisine. I need to explain, that Ashanti Dome is in
an old Russion Orthodox Church. So if you want to see the colorful church
windows, you have to say you want to eat on the upper flor. The waiters were
fairly trained. At least good enough to satisfy me.
A little starter came and it tasted like crap. I'm not kidding it was
nasty.....mainly because of the lack of salt!
Then my actual starter came. Oisters coocked in their own water, topped by
Belugar Caviar. THAT was really yummy. Not kidding. My main dish was steak
Tatar. BIG mistake. The cook did not know how to do that thing the way it
was supposed to be done. Okay, beeing the fair person I am (actually I'm not
a fair person at all, I think) I have to say, that I'm used to probably the
best Steak Tatar in the hole world. Served at the Dicke Matilde in Oostende,
Belgium. Back to the one at Ashanti Dome (already the name sucks hell) the
French Fries were good, and salted. Since I love Creme Brulee, I had to go
for this one as desert. There were little pieces of something, that does not
belong in a Creme Brulee in it, so again a big DON'T.
So if you're used to real French Cuisine, don't go there. If you're in
Shanghai and sick of food you can't identify, go there and try it out. If
you've never eaten Frech Cuisine before and are used to dine at Mc Donald's,
you probably gonna love it.
So I wanted to take a little walk and ended up in UME Complex. Fucking cool
place to hang out in Shanghai. Lot's of little bars, restaurants, cafes and
so on. It was really crowded, too. Had a couple of drinks there. The crowd
hanging out there is really relly nice, too. So no drunk foreigners wanting
to beat you up!
So Sunday was really a nice day, but I couldn't fall asleep at all, so I had
a hard time getting up on Monday morning and not coming late for class. They
erally have a lot of extremely nice teachers there, and their English was
really great. And then I discovered, why that I was actually the only
foreigner from Europe. All the other students are from JAPAN.....can you
believe how lucky I am. Did not see a really hot one yet, but wish me luck.
Ahhhhhh and I only have female teachers (;_;)
Well, at least I'm not going to hang drooling wise above my teacher now.
I have to admit, that 3h of pronounciation training one in a row is really
tirering for my voice, but it's the best training at all. And god know's how
important it is to hit the right tone, otherwise you probably end up beeing
stared at even more.
After school I went to take a walk at the Bund's waterfront. Sat down
somewhere and went through my new textbook. Really good one that is. Sitting
there, about every ten minutes somebody was shyly sitting next to me,
getting a picture taken. Sometimes they asked if I was fine with it,
sometimes they just did it. I was kind of becomeing a tourist attracktion to
the Chinese people from the country. Felt really really strange. I actually
thought they got used to see tall European women allready. But maybe not too
many with blue hair are running around.
Nothing else exciting happend that day, so actually not much more to say.

Yesterday I was just tired and did not do anything else but going to class.
I did not even go out for food. Room Service had to do it that night.

And today, who knows, being finished with todays entry I guess I will take a
cab to Nanjing Dong Lu and walk to Huai Hai Lu. Try out some marked places
and a couple of drinks at UME Complex maybe. Not too many though, because I
have to review class tonight.

Okay guys....have a nice time (^_^) I certainly will

Arrival in Shanghai

Hi everybody
(^_^#)
You can't believe what my mom and my ex-boyfriend have actually been through
to get this blog going. I really hope you apreciate it, because it made my
phone bill raise to to no extend!
Well, everybody knows that the internet is not completely working in China,
so I wans't able to use neither my usual mail address nor can I post
directly. This is how it works now: I send an e-mail with my daily posting
to my ex-boyfriend and he is publishing it, since e-mail publishing doesn't
work either.
Okay let's get started, since there is a lot to tell....couple of days
already *G*

Got on my plain on Tuesday afternoon from Bremen to Frankfurt in oder to go
to Shanghai. Well...already checking in did not go as the usual. I HAD TO
PAY OVERWIGHT FOR MY LUGGAGE. Can you believe that. They wanted to charge me
even more than my freakin' ticket cost in the first way! Flight was
allright, even though Economy Class for such a long flight sucked majorly.
Lucky me, there was noone sitting next to me, so I was able to strech a
little bit at least.
Food on the plain was YACK. Flight was pumpy, but I landed securely in
Shanghai on Thursday last week. Everything went all right, except my
transfer to the Hotel. Got ripped off badly by some pseude cab driver, but
hey I at least made it to the hotel. Which is kind of not what I had
expected. Okay, those of you knowing me better know, that I'm a rather
spoiled brat, but it is only one month, I can do a month with a not so good
hotel (who am I trying to convince here?)
Arrived at the hotel, got into my room, took a shower and slept, cuz I
haven't selpt all night.
Went out......first food. Crappy Japanese Restaurant. Very bad mood!
I don't think I did anything else that day. Was around 9 or 10 p.m. anyways.

Next day: Friday: Majorly sucking day. (-_-#) not kidding. Got up early and
had breakfast. SUCKED. no realy, the only thing you can actually eat is
fruit, anything else tastes like shit. Okay, spoiled kiddo arlarm again.
Then I wen't shopping, or at least tried, but I did not find anything at all
to buy. First of all I can't find a decent cd-shop to buy some new good rock
music, and the receptionist at the hotel can't help much, to be honest.
Their English isn't the best, neither is mine, and my Chiese skills are
improving on a daily basis, which does not mean that they are good, they
still suck! So Chinese is not really an opportunity yet.
Well, at least the cab drives understand it, when I ask them to go to a
certain road. (^_^)

Ah I need to tell you this: Chinese people are not small, at least not in
Shanghai. I'm not kidding, I walked by so many tall guys, taller than ME!
and I'm like 6'1". They are tall, many are good looking, too! Okay, everyone
of you knows that I fall for Asians easyly, even though I still don't know
why. But they are half of me. I wouldn't consider myself fat, but copared to
Shanhaiens I AM (;_;)

Well my day wen't by and I was getting hungry, so I wanted to try out
Ashanti dome, since my tommy wan't gonna take much more strange things that
day. The taxi driver kicked me out in the middle of nowhere and pointed into
some direction. So I started walking, and ended up not finding what I was
looking for. But I found something way better. Been Cafe. I's a really good
restaurant....don't know the street it is in, but if someone really want's
to know I certainly can find it out. Really stylish place, nice waiter, menu
in Chinese and English, and if uou don't know what to eat, just ask the
waiter to recommend something and he will. He chose some fried pork sticks
with chillie sauce....really yummie, some potato stuff, at least it said
potato, even though it didn't taste like some. And for dessert some sweet
bean stuff. Everything was really really good.
If you wanna dine in China, you better get used to the fact that everything
comes at once, even though that doesn't meant that everything should be
eaten at the same time! So I was stuffed and in a really good mood. Took a
cab to my hotel. Made myself up and off I was to my first night in Shanghai.
Went to Maoming Nan Lu because it is said that this street rocks. It was
actually kind of empty. Beeing a coward that day I went to a bar which is
known for many foreingers going there. BIG MISTAKE. Not kidding. NEVER go
where many foreigners go! NEVER! That bar was called Manhatten and was
packed with Westerners hitting on Chinese grils and them taking advantege of
those guys, by letting them pay for their drings. Talk about 1 minute and
leave for another one to get a drink from. And all those supid white men go
for it. It was kind of funny to watch, but then one of those tried to hit on
me. HE was drunk out of his mind and spoke a really poor English with a
heavy German accent. Of course I did not tell him I was German, too.
Actually I tried hard to ignore that sun of a bitch. But he was some
persistant little wrack. He was like "why you look so angry" I said nothing,
but he kept on asking the same shit over and over again. Grrrr why do guys
like him never get it, when Someone does not want to speak to them??????? So
I told him, that I did't wonna talk with him and he completely freaked out.
I'm not kidding. He started talking to me in German, not knowing that I
understood every single word he said. Telling me, that he had never
experienced such a thing, and that I was a bitch and ugly and blablabla,
whatever guys say in such situations. But the best thing was yet to come. He
actually said, that he would redesign my face if it wasn't for my braces. He
really said he'd beat me up. Can you actually believe this? I mean, I've
said way worse things to guys, and never ever had a similar reaction.
Actually I'd never say anything obviously mean to Asians, but to a German
guy? If he behaves like that in Germany, too, he probably got a couple of
drinks landing in hin face!
I emptied my bottle of beer and left. I've had enough for that day.
At my hotel room, I was still so angry about that guy that I didn't fall
asleep until 5 in the morning.

Took a 12 hour nap, got up, tried to go shopping in Nanjing Lu, again
nothing. Ate a little dish at a Cafe, went back to my Room and watched
Channel [V]. Some Asian Music Television. Went back to sleep.

Okay that's it for my first posting....I guess tomorrow will be the next one
(^_^) Still have to catch up with a lot of things more or less worth telling
them

So bye bye for today (^_^)
